Museums in Damascus
Name: The National Museum
Location: Shoukry al-Qouwatly St, near Victoria Bridge
Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily except Tuesdays. Closed between 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Fridays
Details: The National Museum has a fantastic array of exhibits. Some of these are: written cylinders from Ugarit using the first known alphabet, two halls full of marble and terracotta status from Palmyra, Qur'ans dating from the 13th century and an exquisite gold jewellery collection from the Byzantine era.

Name: The National Museum of the Arts and Popular Cultures
Location: Walk through the perfume souk, you will come to a small, quiet square at the begining of Souk al-Bazuriye. Enter through the large iron doors.
Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily except Tuesdays. Closed on Fridays for 2 hours between 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Details: Located in the famous Azem Palace, the museum features a wide range of traditional costumes. The architecture and interior decoration of the rooms has been inspired by Egyptian architecture that was popular under the Mamelukes.

Name: The Museum of Traditional Handicrafts
Location: Between the Mosque and Army Museum, you will find this small area that opens into a courtyard.
Hours: No set hours
Details: Traditional goods are made and sold on trader's premisis. Everything from carpet weaving and glass blowing to shoe and chessboard manfacturing can be seen here.

Name: The Museum of Arab Medicines & Sciences
Location: Half way into Hamidiye Souk, at the wide uncovered area, walk about 300 meters to your right.
Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. daily except Fridays
Details: Located in the beautiful Maristan Nur al-Din, a hospital founded in 1154. The hospital was for centuries renowned in the Arab world as an enlightened center of medical treatment. The setting of this museum is breathtaking - the old building and peaceful courtyard inside are even more enjoyable than the displays.

Name: The Historical Museum of Epigraphy
Location: Exit the Umayyad Mosque by the northern doorway and turn left
Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. daily except Tuesdays
Details: A small calligraphic exhibit with a collection of manuscripts and inscriptions on stone metal and glass. Located in a beautiful 15th century Madrasa.

Name: The Army Museum
Location:  Shoukry al-Qouwatly St, next to the Takiyyah as-Sulaymaniyyah Mosque - you will clearly see the fighter planes and big guns outside.
Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. daily except Tuesdays
Details: Displays a mixed collection of weapons and armour. An excellent collection dating from the crusades to the Golan Heights.
