Visas:
Required by all except nationals of Algeria, Bahrain, Iraq,
Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman,
Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan. Tunisia, the UAE and
Yemen. Visitors holding passports containing a visa for
Israel will be refused entry.
Customs
Regulations:
200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250g tobacco; 1 litre of
spirits and 1 litre of wine; a reasonable quantity of perfume.
All gold and jewelry must be declared on arrival.

1 Syrian Pound (SŁ) = 100 piastres

Regulations:
Foreign currency may be imported; amounts exceeding US$5,000
must be declared on arrival. Export of foreign currency
is limited to US$5,000 or the amount declared on
arrival.
Health
Requirements:
A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for travelers
arriving from infected areas.
Climate
and Clothing:
Hot, dry summers and cool wet winters. There are variations
between the coastal regions and the interior, which has
a desert climate. Mountainous regions are subject to snowfall
in winter. Damascus, average temperatures: January 7oC,
July 27oC, annual rainfall 225mm. Warm clothing
is required for winter from November to March.
Tipping:
Hotels and restaurants: service charges are usually included
in bills. A 10 per cent government tax is levied on room
rates. Where service is not included tip 10 per cent.
International
Airport:

kms from the city center, transfer by bus which departs
every hour or by taxi, Journey time 30 mins.
Airport departure tax: SŁ 100.
There is also an international airport at Aleppo.
Taxis:
Taxis are metered. The Taximeter starts at SŁ 3.00 and increases
in SŁ 1.00 increments.
Driving:
An International Driving License is required.
